40 senior members of SPLM-DC, among them the its deputy chairman and former secretary-general rejoin the SPLM with fresh revelations
Juba (Jul 19) - Several senior members of the. Lam Akol's ‘Democratic Change’ party have defected back to the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement (SPLM) accusing Akol’s leadership of corruption, nepotism, tribalism, dictatorship and treason.
The over 80 senior ex-DC members, among them deputy chairman and former secretary-general Charles Kisanga, and Secretary for Cultural Affairs Dr. Funda Dominic, made the statement on a press release and repeated the same declaration during a press statement at the SPLM Southern Sector office on Monday where they were received by the SPLM Deputy Secretary General for Southern Sector Dr. Anne Itto.
According to the press statement, thousands of supporters from southern and northerner states, as well as the Diaspora will soon quit the party in light of the abundant evidence of dishonesty, treason and emblessment as witnessed and characterized in the kind of leadership and vision of Lam Akol.
Charles Kisanga, the former deputy chairman of Akol's party said he advised members from the greater southern states to return to “the mother party” the SPLM after “having experienced all the shortcomings and plots of Dr. Lam against Southern Sudan and the way he has turned the party of change for his own interest.”
Welcoming the defectors back to the SPLM, the SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the Southern Sector Comrade Dr. Anne said “the boat [that was to take us to the promised land] was a bit unstable some months back, but now, as one people with a common objective, we can sail smoothly towards our final and desired destination”.
Dr. Anne Itto addressing the press Monday at the SPLM Southern Sector Office in Juba However, with the defection of key and senior figures came fresh revelations and admissions that Akol’s party got funding from the NCP, supports militia in Upper Nile State and Unity State, channels money and weaponry to dissident soldiers to wage war against the GoSS, and is against any referendum held while President Kiir is president of GOSS.
“SPLM-DC under the leadership of Dr. Lam Akol is just worse than anything happening in the South under either GoSS or SPLM,” stated the press statement. “Hence there is no justification for SPLM-DC to exist parallel to SPLM since [it] cannot achieve a better result.”
