Thousands more supporters quit Lam's DC party following revelations of embezzlement
WAU (Jul 24 2010) - Offices of Dr. Lam's "Democratic Change" (DC) party are reported to have closed down or deserted in Greater Bahr El Ghazal State as thousands of supporters continue to defect and rejoin the SPLM after recent revelations by top ex-members of the party's leadership accusing Dr. Lam of embezzlement, nepotism, lack of vision and conspiracy against the autonomous Government of South Sudan.
The Chairman of Lam's party DC in Western Bahr El Ghazal State, George Peter Musa defected along with over 8,000 other members last week in Wau saying the party under the leadership of Dr. Lam Akol has totally failed to bring about the "change" that it was originally intended.
The former state chairman went on to reiterate claims made by the former Deputy Chairman of Lam's party Charles Kisanga that the leader is funded by Pres. Bashir's National Congress Party (NCP) to "destabilize the South and obstruct the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and the 2011 Referendum for Self-Determination by supporting militia in some areas the South".
The defectors, according to George Peter, refuse to be part of Dr. Lam's conspiracy and will do everything in their power to expose the malicious plans of that party.
Like the former Deputy Chairman Charles Kisanga who called on all the members to rethink their DC membership, George Peter Musa pledged to travel all over the state to "bring back" people to the SPLM.
The SPLM State Secretariat, along with State ministers, advisers and the Governor of the State Cde. Rizik Zackaria welcomed the returnees saying it was crucial that Southerners join forces and work together ahead of the 2011 Referendum.
During the 2010 General Elections, Dr. Lam Akol stood against and lost (7%-93%) to incumbent President of GOSS, Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit. He rejected the results even after the elections-fraud case he filed to the National Elections Commission was dismissed as baseless. He continues to not to recognize the current elected GOSS Presidency. He further lobbies to have the referendum postponed or annulled since the current government, according to him, is not legitimate.
In the past, reliable sources reported that Lam's DC party was an NCP funded scheme to destabilize the SPLM and derail the CPA. The recent defection of top ex-members of the leadership seems to confirm the fears of most southerners.
